Michael P. Muldoon, MD

Dr. Muldoon is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and the Uniformed Services, University of the Health Sciences. Dr. Muldoon completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Naval Medical Center, San Diego. He went on to complete a fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

At the Naval Medical Center, San Diego, Dr Muldoon was the Director of the Hip and Knee Service for 7 years and served as the Assistant Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics.

 

Since joining Orthopedic Medical Group, Dr Muldoon has been active as a board member of the California Orthopedic Association and recently completed his second term as Chairman of the Sharp Memorial Orthopedic Department.  He is involved in leadership of the International Society of Hip Arthroscopy and Hip Preservation as well as the Irish American Orthopaedic Society.

Dr. Muldoon has extensive experience in hip, knee and shoulder replacement surgery as well as complex hip and knee revisions. His particular area of expertise is arthroscopic hip surgery for traumatic and degenerative conditions.

 

He was the first surgeon to focus successfully on hip arthroscopy in the area and has performed over 2 ,500 arthroscopic hip procedures.   Dr. Muldoon has a special interest in hip problems in young active patients and the combination of open and arthroscopic techniques in hip Preservation. Dr. Muldoon has given and published numerous papers on reconstructive and arthroscopic hip surgery and continues to be active in research and teaching at Orthopedic Medical Group and now Synergy Orthopedic Surgery Medical Group.
